Mrvan’s FY 2026 Law Enforcement Community Project Funding Requests Included in Final House-Approved Measure

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced the inclusion of his law enforcement Community Project Funding requests for Indiana’s First Congressional District for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 in the final House-approved appropriations measure.  The measure is now expected to be approved by the Senate and signed into law by the President in the coming days.

Congressman Mrvan stated, “I am grateful for the selfless service and sacrifice that first responders, including our local police, fire departments, and emergency personnel, provide to our communities every day.  These requested funds will ensure that our officers and public safety personnel have the resources they need to carry out their responsibilities safely and effectively, while ensuring that families in Northwest Indiana can live, work, play, and raise their children without fear.” 

Throughout his tenure as a Member of Congress, including these requests for Fiscal Year 2026, Rep. Mrvan has advanced over $8 million in Community Project Funding requests for law enforcement agencies in Indiana’s First Congressional District. 

Congressman Mrvan’s law enforcement investments included in this final House-approved measure are specified below: 

$85,000 – Chesterton Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of Virtual Reality training systems.

$1,000,000 – Crown Point Police Department - funding will assist with the Radio Replacement Project to enhance operations and support swift, coordinated responses.

$306,000 – Dyer Police Department - funding will assist with the Radio Communications Enhancement Project to promote reliable and consistent communications between officers without frequency interruptions. 

$520,000 – East Chicago Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of new portable radios.

$400,000 – Griffith Police Department - funding will assist with the Police Radio Upgrade Project to improve interoperability among officers as well as other first responders during emergencies.

$488,000 – Hobart Police Department - funding will be utilized to equip patrol officers and detectives with body worn cameras.

$400,000 – La Porte Police Department - funding will assist with the Equipment and Technology Upgrades Project to enhance officers’ abilities to protect and serve the public and improve efficiencies.

$244,000 – Lowell Police Department - funding will assist with upgrading portable radios to improve interoperability.

$670,000 – Schererville Police Department - funding will assist with the Portable Radio Replacement Project to improve interoperability among officers as well as other first responders during emergencies.

$398,000 – Valparaiso Police Department - funding will assist with the Portable Radio Upgrades Project to promote swift, coordinated responses.  

$70,000 – Winfield Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of body worn cameras.
