Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank Mrvan (IN-01), alongside Congressional Labor Caucus Members, Roxanne Brown - International President of the United Steelworkers, and Eric Shultz - President of the USW Local 7-1, called on British Petroleum to end the lockout at the facility located in Whiting, Indiana.

Mrvan released a letter he sent to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in opposition to the emergency order forcing the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to maintain operations at two coal-fired generating units in Indiana and unnecessarily increase costs on ratepayers.

Mrvan announced the House Appropriations Committee has included his economic development Community Project Funding requests for Indiana’s First Congressional District in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 House Appropriations measure. The measure has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee, and an identical version of this measure must be approved by both the House and Senate and signed into law by the President in order for it to be enacted.
