Daily Update on Federal Disaster Response in Northwest Indiana
As we enter the third week of recovery, I want to highlight a few of the recent assistance efforts being provided by our region’s outstanding community organizations.
Legacy Foundation – Weatherhead Repair Assistance Program
The Legacy Foundation is offering assistance through its Weatherhead Repair Assistance Program to help eligible Gary homeowners whose weatherheads were damaged by the recent storms.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be the homeowner of a residential property located within the City of Gary.
- Have experienced weatherhead damage as a result of the recent storm.
- Have a weatherhead that has not already been repaired or replaced.
- Agree to work with a participating electrician.
For additional information, please call 219-736-1880 or visit the Legacy Foundation’s Weatherhead Repair Assistance Program information on their website at:

Additional Resources
I also encourage residents who are still recovering from the storm to check with your local municipality, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, and other community partners for additional programs and initiatives supporting residents impacted by the recent storms. For example:
Portage Township Trustee: https://www.portagetwppcin.gov/
Catholic Charities of Northwest Indiana: https://www.catholic-charities.org/
Thank you again to all the volunteers and individuals who are stepping up in this challenging time to donate their time, supplies or checking in on a loved one or neighbor. Your generosity and efforts are making a meaningful difference, and I know that we will get through this together.
As always, if you need assistance or have questions about available federal resources, please contact my Merrillville District Office at 219-795-1844 or visit mrvan.house.gov.
