Honoring Our Pact to Veterans
Throughout his career as an elected official, Rep. Mrvan has worked to support the health and livelihoods of veterans. Rep. Mrvan previously had the honor to serve on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. In the 118th Congress, Rep. Mrvan served as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, which has oversight and investigative jurisdiction over programs and operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as those of other federal agencies that pertain to veterans. The Subcommittee also oversees the implementation of VA programs including the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program and implementation of the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act law, which treats toxic exposure as a cost of war by addressing the full range of issues impacting toxic-exposed veterans and is the most significant expansion to VA health care in 30 years.
Rep. Mrvan will continue to build upon his legislative accomplishments on behalf of veterans in the 118th Congress, including the Veterans Health Administration Leadership Transformation Act to improve leadership stability within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which was included in the Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvements Act and passed the House. Rep. Mrvan also introduced the Veterans’ Security and Pay Transparency Act to improve recruitment and retention of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Police Officers and the VA Acquisition Review Board Act to create a formal structure for the review and approval of major acquisition programs at VA. Additionally, Rep. Mrvan introduced and the Gold Star Family Education Parity Act to make veterans' dependents and survivors eligible for superior education benefits.
In the 117th Congress, Rep. Mrvan served as Chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization and introduced four pieces of legislation that were signed into law, including the Department of Veteran Affairs Expiring Authorities Act, the VA Electronic Health Record Transparency Act, the Strengthening VA Cybersecurity (SVAC) Act, and the Dignity for Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Survivors Act. Rep. Mrvan will continue working hard to honor our PACT to veterans to deliver the world-class health care and benefits they deserve.
