Mrvan seeking applicants for free higher education at U.S. military academies
Students interested in attending one or more of the nation's service academies for a no-cost college education and military career are running out of time to apply for nomination by Northwest Indiana's representative in Congress.
The office of U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, D-Highland, has set a 5 p.m. Nov. 3 deadline for Region high school seniors and college students to request the congressman's endorsement of their military academy application.
"I am honored to be able to nominate students from Indiana's 1st Congressional District for appointment to the U.S. military service academies. I encourage all interested students to apply for this invaluable opportunity to obtain a college education while serving our nation," Mrvan said.
Applications are available online by clicking the "Military Academy Nominations" link under the "Services" tab on the mrvan.house.gov website, or by calling Tom Kubon, service academy coordinator in Mrvan's Merrillville office, at 219-795-1844.
The congressman can nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant slot allotted to Indiana's 1st District for enrollment at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York; and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut.
