Daily Update on Federal Disaster Response in Northwest Indiana
As we continue through this recovery, I remain focused on doing everything I can to ensure that our region has the resources it needs and that the lights are turned on for each and every resident as soon as possible. I also continue to be heartened by the countless ways our communities are supporting one another through this recovery, and want to highlight some of the latest efforts below.

Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority
The Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is offering Hotel and Temporary Rental Assistance for individuals who have been displaced from their homes due to recent storms. “Displaced” means the home is not currently safe or habitable. Eligibility is based on being displaced from your home as a direct result of the storms that occurred on Aug. 11, 2026, and living in a county that has issued a disaster declaration.
According to the IHCDA, the first step in the process is to contact Indiana 211 to report your damage. Based on the assessment, Indiana 211 will make referrals to IHCDA for qualified residents. To report damage, call Indiana 211 at 211 or 866‑211‑9966 or visit the website at in211.communityos.org.
As always, if you need assistance or have questions about available federal resources, please contact my Merrillville District Office at 219-795-1844 or visit mrvan.house.gov.
