Congressman Mrvan Hosts Prominent Hispanic Legislator in Northwest Indiana
Hammond, IN – Yesterday, U.S. Congressmen Frank J. Mrvan (IN-01) hosted U.S. Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) at a Hispanic Community Roundtable at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond. The two met with local community stakeholders, including Indiana State Representatives Mike Andrade (HD-12) and Earl Harris Jr. (HD-02).
“I thank Congressman Cárdenas, State Representatives Andrade and Harris, and all of the participants for joining in this active discussion on the issues facing the Hispanic community in Northwest Indiana,” said Congressman Frank J. Mrvan. “Together, we can continue to advocate for meaningful solutions to promote economic growth and prosperity for all individuals and small businesses throughout our region.”
“As a former small business owner, I know what it takes to run a business – that’s why I’m dedicated to supporting all businesses and business owners here in Indiana,” said Congressman Tony Cárdenas. “The Latino entrepreneurs we met today have built their businesses from the ground up, created and retained jobs and driven the local economy forward. Even as we grapple with the ongoing pandemic, they have been the heart and soul of this community. Rep. Mrvan and I continue to work hard in Congress to bring back federal resources through the Inflation Reduction Act, American Rescue Plan and other legislation to make sure each of them can succeed now and in the long run. We’ll keep working hard in Washington to build on this progress and strengthen our economy with small businesses at the forefront.”
"As one of two Hispanic legislators in the Indiana House of Representatives, I know firsthand the importance of representation in government," State Rep. Mike Andrade said. "Having the ability to sit down and listen to members of the local Hispanic community will help us to better represent our constituents and hear concerns affecting the daily lives of Hoosiers."
"Yesterday's event was a great opportunity for lawmakers to hear from members of Indiana's Hispanic community about their concerns," said State Rep. Earl Harris Jr. "As a legislator who is both African American and Hispanic, I know that being heard and feeling represented in your government can lead to increased civic engagement which benefits everyone in the state."
