Mrvan Announces Committee Assignments for the 118th Congress

February 3, 2023

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced that for the 118th Congress he has been confirmed to serve on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

For the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Rep. Mrvan will serve as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and as a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.

These assignments will allow Rep. Mrvan to build upon his legislative accomplishments on behalf of veterans in the 117th Congress, which included the introduction of four pieces of legislation that were signed into law, including the Department of Veteran Affairs Expiring Authorities Act, the VA Electronic Health Record Transparency Act, the Strengthening VA Cybersecurity (SVAC) Act, and the Dignity for Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Survivors Act.  Rep. Mrvan was also a vocal supporter of the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act law, which treats toxic exposure as a cost of war by addressing the full range of issues impacting toxic-exposed veterans, and is the most significant expansion to VA health care in 30 years.

For the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Rep. Mrvan will serve as a member of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions.

This assignment builds on the Congressman’s unwavering advocacy for all workers and labor organizations who are on the front lines of supporting our national economy and our national security.  Rep. Mrvan will continue his initiatives in this Committee to support the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, expanded Buy America requirements, strong Davis-Bacon wage protection requirements, and the use of project labor agreements.

Congressman Mrvan stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my public service and advocacy for veterans, members of organized labor, teachers, and all workers and individuals and families from Indiana’s First Congressional District as a Member of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Education and the Workforce.  There remains a tremendous amount of work to do to ensure that our veterans receive the world-class health and benefits that they deserve, and to promote the rights of organized labor, which is the foundation of our Northwest Indiana economy.  As we proceed, I will continue to be active with the essential work of the House Appropriations Committee, as my long-term priority remains to serve on this Committee, and I also look forward to continuing to advocate for our invaluable steel industry and our manufacturing workforce as the Vice Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus.”
