Mrvan Applauds ITC’s Affirmative Rulings Following his Testimonies

November 2, 2022

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan applauded the United States International Trade Commission’s (ITC) recent affirmative rulings in support of the domestic steel industry following his testimonies during their September hearings.

Specific to hot-rolled steel products, which are produced at Cleveland-Cliffs and U.S. Steel facilities in Northwest Indiana, on September 15, 2022, Congressman Mrvan testified that “the steel products we are discussing today, hot-rolled steel, are made in the First Congressional District, at the U.S. Steel Gary Works and Cleveland Cliffs Indiana Harbor facilities,” and that “when foreign competitors choose to cheat and circumvent our trade laws, they threaten the existence of the American steel industry and good-paying jobs that allow our workers to support their families.”  Additional information on the ITC’s final ruling on this case is available here.

With regard to oil country tubular goods (OCTG) products, on September 22, 2022, Congressman Mrvan testified during the ITC hearing and stated that “Northwest Indiana is home to an incredible steel and manufacturing base, and the dedicated workforce and members of the United Steelworkers produce the material and hot-rolled steel that is used to make OCTG products.  As the Co-Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus, I am committed to continuing to do everything possible to ensure that bad actors and countries that cheat know that American trade laws will be fully enforced.”  Additional information on the ITC’s final ruling on this case is available here.

In response to these ITC rulings, Congressman Mrvan stated, “The incredible workers and the steel industry of Northwest Indiana are essential to the strength of our nation’s economy and our national security.  I am proud to have been able to testify before the ITC on eight different occasions during my first term in Congress.  More work remains to continue to ensure that all of our trade laws are enforced, and I am committed to continuing to work as hard as our steelworkers do every day to ensure they can compete on a level playing field.”
