Community Healthcare System and U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announce funding for advanced imaging technology for life-saving cardiac care at St. Catherine Hospital.

The $1.5 million support is provided through a grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration, a federal agency for improving access to healthcare services for people who are underinsured or medically vulnerable. As a disproportionate share healthcare facility, St. Catherine Hospital relies on public subsidies to help finance its important mission of caring for the community.

A major investment in life-saving cardiac care at St. Catherine Hospital is being hailed as a victory for East Chicago.

The long-standing hospital in the Indiana Harbor neighborhood landed a $1.5 million federal grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration to improve health care access for people who are medically vulnerable or underinsured.

U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan helped line up the money and helped announce the investment.

First officially observed in 1868, Memorial Day honors the brave men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty. Today, this somber day of remembrance is held in the last week of May, and for many, it kicks off the summer season, but Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend. For many people, it is a day of grieving and heavy emotions. To keep the eternal remembrance of fallen service men and women alive, the Lake County Parks and Recreations Department held its 42nd annual Memorial Day service at Stoney Run County Park.

On Sunday, June 4 the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (CVA) helped put on the 40th annual Leon’s Triathlon. Close to 300 athletes of all levels and abilities came out to Wolfe Lake Park in Hammond to participate in the most patriotic triathlon in the country. Goals were achieved, memories were made, and most importantly, our nation’s brave heroes were honored.

Honoring the nation’s war dead includes working to ensure that surviving veterans get the services they’ve earned, members of the state and federal House Veterans Affairs Committees said during the annual Memorial Day service.

“We must always remember those who have given their lives in service to our country, to honor their sacrifice by working to create a more perfect America,” U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., said.

The city of Portage honored the nation’s fallen veterans this Memorial Day with a service at Founders Square attended by U.S. Reps. Frank Mrvan and Mark Takano, amongst others.

A large crowd attended the event co-hosted by the American Legion Post 260, a nonprofit organization of U.S. war veterans. In addition to speeches by the congressmen, Portage Mayor Sue Lynch, State Rep. Chuck Moseley and Fire Chief Randy Wilkening also honored the nation’s veterans in their remarks.

Every Memorial Day, the City of Portage holds a beautiful ceremony to honor our country’s fallen heroes and thank them for their sacrifice. This year’s Memorial Day Service was just as touching as everyone hoped it would be as veterans, gold star family survivors, and countless community members gathered in Founders Square to remember all the soldiers who didn’t make it home.

The Congressional Steel Caucus has written a letter to the Biden administration asking for intervention in a surge of Mexican steel imports, arguing it has cost steelworker jobs and poses a threat to domestic steel production.

Congressional Steel Caucus Chairman Rick Crawford and Vice Chairman Frank J. Mrvan asked for the administration to pursue tariffs to defend U.S. steel jobs.
