Mrvan Statement on House Passage of America COMPETES Act
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan voted in support of H.R. 4521, the America COMPETES Act of 2022. The House approved the measure by a vote of 222 to 210.
The America COMPETES Act will make new investments in research, innovation, and American manufacturing to accelerate U.S. production of critical semiconductor chips, expand research capacity, and strengthen the supply chain to make more goods in America. Notably, the legislation also includes provisions to enhance U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty trade laws to ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field.
Congressman Mrvan stated on the House, “I am pleased that the America COMPETES Act will take historic strides to defend the American workers, our manufacturing base, and grow our economy. Together, we can take action in this legislation to address supply chain vulnerabilities, increase the production of American-made semiconductors, and improve our ability to defend against illegally traded goods.”
He also stated that “Indiana’s First Congressional District is home to an incredible manufacturing, steel, and industrial complex, and I want to take this moment to thank my Senate colleague from Indiana, Senator Todd Young, for his leadership and initiative on the Senate companion legislation.”
The Senate version was approved by the Senate on June 8, 2021, by a vote of 68 to 32. The House and Senate versions must now be reconciled into a final version and approved by both chambers before being sent to the President and signed into law.
