Melissa Mitchell had a one-word response to a question posed by U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, a Democrat who represents Northwest Indiana.

“In your forecasting and with the uncertainty, what is your worst-case scenario?” Mrvan asked Mitchell, the chief executive of HealthLinc, a Valparaiso-based not-for-profit medical provider serving a five-county area in Northwest Indiana.

Northwest Indiana's representative in the U.S. House had no qualms about voting "no" Thursday on Republican President Donald Trump's tax and spending cut legislation.

U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, D-Highland, said the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act is anything but beautiful, with numerous provisions that actively harm middle-class families, senior citizens, students, children, women and other vulnerable populations throughout the Region.

Valparaiso, IN – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan hosted a roundtable with Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to discuss the impact of cuts to Medicaid.  The roundtable included representatives from 219 Health Network, Community HealthNet, Edgewater Health, HealthLinc, NorthShore Health Centers, Porter-Starke Services / Marram Health Center, Regional Health Systems, and the Swanson Center.

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan issued the statement below following the House approval of the Republican Majority Reconciliation Legislation.  As the Senate has already approved this legislation, it is expected to be signed into law shortly by President Trump.

The ribbon is cut on the 11th Street Station building and parking structure, officially opening the facilities to South Shore Line riders.

The station building offers seating, restrooms, an historic exhibit tracing the South Shore Line’s milestones, model train display and vendor spaces. The parking garage includes 542 parking spaces, with 437 priority spots for NICTD passengers to utilize between 6 am and 2 pm Monday through Friday.

On June 18, Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch, along with city, regional, and state partners, welcomed  the public to the Grand Opening of the South Shore Line’s 11th Street Station and Parking Structure during a  celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event marks a major milestone in the City’s ongoing revitalization efforts  and in the broader Double Track Northwest Indiana Project.

The South Shore Line hit a long-awaited milestone with the opening of its 11th Street Station and adjacent parking structure.

“This station, this development here on 11th Street in downtown Michigan City is the vision,” said South Shore Line President Michael Noland during the station and parking garage’s grand opening on Wednesday.

“It’s what so many people shared when we sought funding, transforming a lightly used train stop – which used to be half a block away – into the anchor for residential redevelopment economic success,” he added.

The new train station at 11th Street in downtown Michigan City is “a gateway to our city’s future that will serve generations to come,” Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said at Wednesday’s grand opening.

The station and parking garage are the final piece of the Double Track NWI project.

“When someone asks what is TOD, just bring them here, and they’ll recognize it right away,” said Michal Noland, general manager and president of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which operates the South Shore Line.

South Shore Line leaders and a host of public officials and private sector partners celebrated the opening of the commuter railroad’s new 11th Street Station Wednesday, while construction work continued on an adjoining $101 million mixed-use development inspired by the rail project.

“We really want this station to be welcoming to the entire community,” South Shore Line President Michael Noland said in remarks before a ribbon-cutting that heralded the station’s noon opening to the public.
