Crown Point Mayor David Uran, U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers marked the end of a sanitary sewer infrastructure improvement project in the city Wednesday.
City employees and audience members alike watched as a red ribbon was cut signifying the end of the project, which Uran said will allow for more growth in the city.
Mrvan agreed with the Democratic mayor the grant is "proof that when you invest, and when you work in a collaborative effort between federal, state, local and private industries, great things can happen."
"Today is about new beginnings and showing the world that the Gary airport, and the city of Gary, is competing for your investment," Mrvan said.
"I believe that increasing funding for child sexual abuse prevention research activities will be a crucial investment in the continued fight to protect our most vulnerable population," Mrvan said. "Most importantly, this research will be used to develop and disseminate effective prevention strategies to ensure that evidence-based intervention practices make it into the hands of parents, educators, youth-serving organizations, and other stakeholders dedicated to keeping children safe from sexual abuse."
