Rep. Mrvan Joins Porter County Sheriff’s Office for Ride-Along

February 25, 2022

Merrillville, IN – Today,  Rep. Frank J. Mrvan (IN-01) was pleased to join the Porter County Sheriff’s Office for a ride-along throughout Northwest Indiana.

Mrvan has been vocal about his support for local law enforcement agencies, and today he was able to see some of the challenges that the Porter County Sheriff’s Office face on a daily basis. During their ride-along, Rep. Mrvan learned about key issues impacting public safety with officers, including the increasing amount of opioid overdoses and deaths in the community and the need to have more fulsome mental health care services to access for individuals in distress.

“Last week, we were honored to have Congressman Mrvan attend our Regional Drug Unit Meeting, which was held at the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.  This meeting was attended by 90 Officers from 7 counties and highlighted the importance of HIDTA, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Federal program,” said Sheriff Reynolds. “Now we are honored to have the Congressman ride along with one of our Patrol Officers to get firsthand exposure of the Patrol Division at the Sheriff’s Office, and to see the level of the professionalism of our state of the art equipment that is being used to keep our community safe, which I am very proud of.”

“The work that our local law enforcement agencies do to keep our communities safe is crucial,” said Rep. Mrvan. “That’s why I have been an advocate for both community investments and police funding. We must enact meaningful changes in our community that stand up against acts of violence while giving law enforcement the tools and resources they need to do their jobs effectively. I saw for myself how Porter County can do both successfully.”

Rep. Mrvan is a proud member of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus
