Mrvan announces House Appropriations Subcommittee selections

February 24, 2025

U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, D-1st, on Thursday, announced the House Appropriations Subcommittees that he will serve on in the 119th Congress.

Mrvan will serve on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science.

Through this subcommittee, he will focus on providing adequate and appropriate funds, oversight, and direction for the International Trade Commission, which is responsible for defending our domestic manufacturing workforce from unfair trade practices, the Department of Commerce, which promotes economic development and job creation programs, and the Department of Justice, which invests in local first responder and law enforcement agencies.

“I am beyond thrilled to be able to support the economic infrastructure and the incredible steel industry of Northwest Indiana and our nation through these Subcommittees and the work of the House Appropriations Committee,” Mrvan said.

“The Northwest Indiana steel and manufacturing base relies on the critical work of the International Trade Commission to enforce our trade laws and ensure that our workforce and all members of organized labor can compete on a level playing field, and I will do everything possible to ensure that this federal agency has the resources it needs,” he added

Mrvan will also serve on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, which former Congressman Pete Visclosky previously served on and chaired.

Through this Subcommittee, Mrvan will focus on supporting the work of the Department of Energy and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which includes resources and funds for sewer, water infrastructure, and economic development projects in Northwest Indiana.

“Northwest Indiana has benefited tremendously from the partnership and work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers through countless sewer, water infrastructure, and flood control projects that have positively impacted the residents and the economy of our region, and I look forward to continuing to support their vital work,” Mrvan said.

“Further, Northwest Indiana law enforcement agencies have received essential resources through federal programs at the Department of Justice, including through the COPS Hiring program, and I will continue to advocate for the use of these programs through the Community Funding Project request process,” he added.
