Mrvan Introduction of President Biden at National Prayer Breakfast

February 1, 2024

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan introduced President Biden at the National Prayer Breakfast in the U.S. Capitol building.

A video of Rep. Mrvan’s introduction is available here, and the full statement as prepared for delivery is below.

“It is my honor to recognize our next distinguished speaker, and while I have not personally been to Scranton, Pennsylvania, I know that the President has been to my hometown in Hammond, Indiana.

“I do believe that these two communities have many similarities, comprising of working class families who know the value of hard work, who volunteer their time to charitable causes and look out for one another, who appreciate honesty, fair play, and expect others to do so as well, who understand the importance of preserving the land, and who know the grounding value of family, community, and attending church on Sundays.

“I am so very grateful for this upbringing provided by my family, for my years of Catholic grade school at St. Catherine of Siena, under Pastor Pallone.

“I know I am not alone in these formative experiences, and that this upbringing is shared by many in this room and many throughout our nation.

“Just this past weekend in the City of Gary, I had the honor to join parishioners at Temple of Deliverance in Christ, and I would be remiss if I did not share that Bishop Warren and the entire congregation prayed for enlightenment for Congress and the Administration, and that we work together to make a more perfect union.

“Thank you, President Biden for being here with us this morning.  Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming my friend, the 46th President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden.”
