Mrvan Announces DOT Grant for Town of Munster

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, announced a grant award for the Town of Munster under the Department of Transportation’s (DOT)  Fiscal Year 2022 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grants.

The RAISE Grant in the amount of $17,143,320 will be used to assist the Ridge Road Complete Streets project in the Town of Munster.  Specifically, according to the DOT, the funding will be used to renovate over a mile of Ridge Road traffic lanes from five lanes to three, add a 10-foot wide multi-use path on the south side of the street, plant more than 250 trees, and install landscaping, signage, and pedestrian seating.

Congressman Frank J. Mrvan stated, “I thank our local partners in Munster for their leadership on this project that incorporates sustainable measures to reinvest in the Ridge Road corridor, which will improve transportation, attract new businesses, and enhance recreational activities.  Because of their successful utilization of this federal resource, we will create more good-paying jobs and a better quality of life for everyone in Northwest Indiana.” 

“This award will allow the Town to implement our community-driven vision for a more human-focused built environment.  With that opportunity will come more pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, additional street trees, improved stormwater management, and more flexibility for our local businesses to operate,” said Dustin Anderson, Town Manager of the Town of Munster.  “This project is the validation of an exhaustive public engagement process that saw thousands of residents weigh in on what they want this vital corridor to look like in the future.  Without those residents and the bold leadership of our elected and appointed officials, this project would have never been possible.”
