Mrvan Announces Talent Search Program Grant Award for Ivy Tech
Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced a grant award for Ivy Tech Community College - Lake County Campus under the Department of Education’s Talent Search Program.
Ivy Tech Community College - Lake County Campus will receive $323,420 to provide academic, career, and financial counseling to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. According to the Department of Education, the Talent Search Program aims to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
“I congratulate Chancellor Gonzalez and all of the leaders at Ivy Tech Community College for their initiative to successfully obtain this beneficial federal resource,” said Rep. Mrvan. “This is the type of action that invests in the future prosperity of Northwest Indiana and prepares the next generation of the workforce to thrive in their careers.”
“Ivy Tech appreciates the continued federal support that allows us to serve close to 600 first- generation students in Gary and the surrounding communities. Programs like this are critical in meeting the needs of our community and students who are working to improve their lives through education,” said Louie Gonzalez, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College Lake County Campus.
