April 15, 2026

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan discussed high utility costs with Secretary of Energy Chris Wright during a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development hearing.

Specifically, Congressman Mrvan pressed Secretary Wright about the emergency order to require NIPSCO to keep utilizing coal-fired electric generation past its retirement date that is expected to cost more than $100 million and further increase utility costs for ratepayers.  Congressman Mrvan asked Secretary Wright to consider reversing the order and Secretary Wright indicated that he would look into this issue and the impact on ratepayers.
