Mrvan Statement on House Passage of Budget Reconciliation Legislation
Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan released the following statement in response to House passage of budget reconciliation legislation.
“I am proud today to support the House version of budget reconciliation legislation, which builds upon the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to improve equity in our tax code and provide much needed relief to workers and families.
“It is notable that this legislation extends the expanded Child Tax Credit for one year and includes hearing as a Medicare benefit. It also includes $20 billion to strengthen the ability of individuals to obtain a higher education, including increasing the maximum Pell grant award by $550. To improve access to health care, this measure also increases federal resources for older Americans to receive care in their homes, strengthens the home health care workforce, and lowers prescription costs by allowing the negotiation of certain drugs under Medicare. The legislation also importantly includes $3 billion in capital access investments for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
“Further, I am pleased that this legislation includes specific pay-for provisions, which will ensure that corporations and wealthy individuals pay their fair share. These provisions demonstrate the knowledge that workers and working families are the key to creating wealth and prosperity for all individuals.
“I look forward to the Senate considering this impactful and necessary legislation as soon as possible so that we can continue the momentum to grow our economy, create more economic and educational opportunities, and improve the health of everyone in our communities.”
