Mrvan Statement on Potential Indiana Redistricting

August 5, 2025

Congressman Frank Mrvan released the statement below regarding potential redistricting in Indiana.

My mission throughout my career as a public servant and as a Member of the U.S. House is to advocate for the most vulnerable in our communities, including being a vocal supporter for seniors, children, individuals with disabilities, and victims of sexual assault.  I also am fighting every day for the working men and women in the United Steelworkers, Building and Construction Trades, and all members of organized labor, teachers, and our brave veterans. Any attempt to redistrict now is simply an attempt to silence those very voices.

The Trump Administration has recognized that their harmful policies to benefit wealthy elites at the expense of working families are wildly unpopular.  They know that their only hope to maintain control is to pressure the Indiana General Assembly to violate the Indiana Constitution and redistrict U.S. House of Representative seats mid-decade.

The disastrous policies of the Trump Administration are hurting our communities and hitting the pocketbooks of families with increased costs at the grocery store, in their utility bills, and in creating uncertainty for the long-term strength of our economy.  I deeply regret that we have outsourced the strength of our domestic steel industry to a foreign nation, and reversed approved federal funding that would have promoted a Hydrogen Hub at the Whiting refinery, creating thousands of new jobs for generations.

It is no surprise that some believe redistricting is the only option to cling to power when they know the American people are rejecting the damage done by the House Republican Majority.   Their deeply flawed reconciliation law hurts providers, strips away health care benefits from our seniors, our most vulnerable neighbors, and those in urgent need, all to fund massive tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals and special interests.  Health care should never be sacrificed to enrich the few.  I, along with the voters, are committed to reversing that decision and making sure that hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare centers are able to provide vital services that truly benefit individuals and our economy.

I also am a staunch supporter of the agricultural community, an essential pillar of our economy and way of life.  That is why I am deeply concerned by Congress allowing DOGE and Elon Musk to disrupt long-standing agricultural trade relationships and destabilize critical markets.  These misguided efforts have not only created uncertainty for producers ahead of the fall harvest, but are also driving up grocery prices for families across the country.  Our friends in rural communities, who work tirelessly to feed America, deserve better than economic chaos and broken promises.  They deserve leaders that value their contributions, protect their livelihoods, and put stability ahead of spectacle.

It’s reprehensible to call in the Indiana General Assembly for a special session on redistricting when the communities I represent believe their time would be better spent to discuss initiatives that restore state funds for our local police departments.  I am proud of the millions of dollars of federal funds that I have secured for Northwest Indiana public safety agencies, and we should build on that progress at the state level.
