“From the very beginning of this proposed acquisition, I was steadfast in voicing serious concerns about the implications of foreign ownership – particularly Nippon Steel’s record on trade practices – and the critical importance of preserving American control over our steel production, which is vital to our national security.
Washington, DC – Congressman Frank J. Mrvan released the following statement after opposing the House Republican Reconciliation Legislation this morning. Despite his opposition, the House approved the measure by a vote of 215-214. The measure has now been referred to the Senate, where it is currently pending consideration.
Congressman Frank J. Mrvan has rescheduled for May 29 a series of town hall-style events to listen to the needs of Northwest Indiana residents and update them on what he's accomplished on their behalf in the U.S. House.
The Highland Democrat originally planned to appear at three community forums April 24 at locations in Lake, Porter and northwest LaPorte counties. Mrvan's attendance was canceled at the last minute due to illness.

Mrvan asked Energy Secretary Chris Wright Wednesday in a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development hearing about the criteria for review and status of the Northwest hydrogen hub project.

U.S. Sen. Jim Banks, R-Indiana, and Rep. Frank Mrvan, D-Highland, have sent a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Treasury, asking for the nation’s owned and operated steel industry to be preserved.
“We write to express our belief that a strong, domestically owned and operated American steel industry is vital to our national security,” said the letter to Secretary Scott Bessent. “If American steel production does not remain robust in peacetime, we risk unreliable supplies of critical steel products to the military in wartime.”
