The Gary/Chicago International Airport has added a new rescue and firefighting truck to its fleet.

The Michigan City Historical Society celebrated 50 years at the Old Lighthouse Museum, all thanks to the efforts of volunteers, on Saturday, when it also marked 108 years since a tragedy on the lake.

At the museum in Washington Park on July 22, members of the public helped celebrate the museum’s 50th anniversary and honored the victims of the SS Eastland disaster,

The Gary/Chicago International Airport has purchased a new, 3,000-gallon airport rescue and firefighting truck to add to its fleet of equipment that’s 20 years or older.

The new firetruck will be outfitted in the winter with two high-speed runway brooms used for snow removal. Those brooms cost $932,000 and $1.3 million, respectively, according to a news release from the airport.
