Much of the Schererville Town Council meeting on Wednesday consisted of accepting grants targeted for a variety of projects, foremost among them an award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration’s Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program.

The Town Council formally accepted $8.4 million to eliminate the at-grade crossing and build a bridge over the railroad across on Kennedy Avenue, which is part of phase one of the project to extend the road south to U.S. 30.

Community Healthcare System and U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announce funding for advanced imaging technology for life-saving cardiac care at St. Catherine Hospital.

The $1.5 million support is provided through a grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration, a federal agency for improving access to healthcare services for people who are underinsured or medically vulnerable. As a disproportionate share healthcare facility, St. Catherine Hospital relies on public subsidies to help finance its important mission of caring for the community.

A major investment in life-saving cardiac care at St. Catherine Hospital is being hailed as a victory for East Chicago.

The long-standing hospital in the Indiana Harbor neighborhood landed a $1.5 million federal grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration to improve health care access for people who are medically vulnerable or underinsured.

U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan helped line up the money and helped announce the investment.

To keep the eternal remembrance of fallen service men and women alive, the Lake County Parks and Recreations Department held its 42nd annual Memorial Day service at Stoney Run County Park.

On Sunday, June 4 the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (CVA) helped put on the 40th annual Leon’s Triathlon. Close to 300 athletes of all levels and abilities came out to Wolfe Lake Park in Hammond to participate in the most patriotic triathlon in the country. Goals were achieved, memories were made, and most importantly, our nation’s brave heroes were honored.
